Colin Self: »Songs of Attunement«
Colin Self composes music, performance, and environments that expand consciousness and trouble binaries as well as boundaries of perception and communication. They work with communities across disciplines and use immaterial and material means – including voices, bodies, and computers – to interface with and reimagine worlds. For Pop-Kultur, Colin Self will present »Songs of Attunement«, including music from their forthcoming album »Polari«. »Songs of Attunement« unites various conceptual threads surrounding Polari, a criminal queer language from the UK, with various realms of the unseen and unspoken, a continuation of Self’s long term interest in shadow worlds. Connecting to Douglas Crimp’s »Melancholia and Moralism: Essays on AIDS and Queer Politics«, this Commissioned Work is presented as a call-and-response to excerpts from this text. Joining onstage as both a vocalist and conductor, this will be Self’s first musical performance in Berlin since 2020’s »The World To Come«.
