David Julian Kirchner, a white man with brown hair and a beard, stands in front of an abandoned bus stop in the countryside wearing a yellow mackintosh with the hood up. He looks into the camera. The ground is damp. Behind the concrete shelter, on which the graffito of a stylised Playboy bunny is spray-painted with the word "Playboyz", a field can be seen. In one hand Kirchner carries a red suitcase, in the other a beige guitar bag.

David Julian Kirchner

»Evakuiert das Ich-Gebäude« (»Evacuate the I Building«) was the name of David Julian Kirchner’s debut album, which the Mannheim native released in 2019 under the band, no, company name Kichner Hochtief while also curating an exhibition: a walk-in pop album about marketing madness featuring countless made-up brands from liquor to fashion. So it’s more than just music that the pop-academy graduate, writer and documentary filmmaker creates. Inspired by the Hamburg and Frankfurt Schools, the lyrics play a major role in his indie songs. This year he is releasing his second album on Staatsakt – now with his fictitious band IG POP, which offers songs of the labour movement at a pop trade union. One of his new songs, which he will probably also perform live at Pop-Kultur: »Die Internationale für die Indie-Disco« (»The International for Indie Disco«).
