A performance situation with MC Yallah. She is standing in front of a mixing desk with many cables, a man can be glimpsed in the background. The stage behind her is illuminated by red light, which does not shine on MC Yallah. She stands in the dark and is not clearly visible. She wears what is called a Zulu hat, which fits tightly to her head and slopes upwards to finish in a large circle. She has a short dress with protruding shoulder appliqués and scattered large white flower-like patterns. With her left hand she holds the microphone in front of her mouth.

MC Yallah & Debmaster

MC Yallah has been one of Africa’s most famous female rappers over the last 20 years. Living in Uganda, the Kenyan native is a key member of the great Nyege Nyege crew. With her mix of futuristic conscious rap, grime, punk and trap, she ignites dancefloors all over the world, letting lyrics gush out, whether in Kiswahili, Luganda, English or Luo. Her furiously fast rhymes touch on personal experiences, the hardships and joys of emancipation, the fight against sexualised violence and, above all, female self-empowerment. In 2019, she released the fantastic album »Kubali« with the French producer Debmaster, and the follow-up is slated for release this year.
