The three musicians of the band Metz stand in front of a black background divided by a diagonally widening gap through which overcast, grey sky can be seen. The three are positioned at the bottom left of the picture. One is slightly offset in front. He is a white, tattooed man with a brown shirt, rolled-up sleeves, a full beard and dark blond hair combed back. He is looking out of the picture to the right. Slightly smaller to his left is the next man with a red shirt, rolled-up sleeves, glasses and brown half-length hair. He is looking towards the camera. The third is at the very back, but in the middle between the others, wearing a grey shirt with the sleeves rolled up, brown semi-long hair. He looks to the left.

METZ

The music of METZ – Alex Edkins (guitar and vocals), Hayden Menzies (drums) and Chris Slorach (bass) – has always been hard to pin down. The closest thing to it would probably be punk. Their earliest songs contained allusions to the surging energy of early-nineties DIY hardcore, but on their musical trajectory since their first album in 2013, the Canadian trio have shaken off all influences and gone back to their fundamental core: propulsive drums, basslines that can be felt deep in your chest, guitar riffs that stir the blood under your fingers, and the blistering angst of fading innocence. With their 2020 album »Atlas Vending«, they continue to explore themes of growing up with off-kilter melodies, demonstrating the power that they also offer in a live setting.
