A yellow escalator leads down to a courtyard surrounded by office buildings with many windows. The courtyard is covered with square concrete slabs. In the courtyard, to the left of the escalator, a tree with thick branches and no leaves stands on a small square piece of green space. On the escalator, Schulverweis, two white men with short hair, can be seen on their way down, looking at the camera from a distance.

Schulverweis

Schulverweis named themselves after the German word for expulsion from school, hinting at their irreverent punk style. They make their music completely out of the moment, just as the project itself came into being: L.F.T. and Levente formed Schulverweis after having to share a studio in the crowded metropolis of Hamburg. A fitting lyric: »Im teuren Café um die Ecke, Latte Macchiato – verrecke. Trinke meinen Kaffee schwarz, wie ich es verdiene, kein Zucker für mich, kein Zucker für mich« (»In the expensive café around the corner, latte macchiato – die. I drink my coffee black like I deserve, no sugar for me, no sugar for me«). The band’s concept: record each song by jamming directly to a tape deck. And that’s where everything comes together: Dystopian synth pads, dusty drum patterns and endearingly banal guitar riffs. In addition, there is a colourful jumble of narration, bawling, slurring. German, French, English, whatever. All with a lot of punk, synth and wit!
