Scúru Fitchádu

In his project Scúru Fitchádu, which means »pitch black« in a Cape Verdean dialect, Portuguese artist Sette Sujidade clashes musical styles like drum ‘n’ bass and punk with the music and dance genre of funaná, native to Cape Verde. Sette Sujidade sings and shouts, growls and shrieks in Creole and plays the ferrinho – an instrument that produces its sound by scraping an iron bar with a knife – over pounding 300-bpm electro grooves. It sounds aggressive and angry, but more than anything, it’s made for dancing. Distorted basslines, fast beats and the noise of the Lisbon underground jump around, banging their heads and raising heart rates. Riot on the dancefloor!
