Collage that refers to the commissioned work "Karaoke Xpress". There are snippets torn out of magazines that form a kind of atmospheric wallpaper in shades of blue, red, orange and black. A disco ball hangs in the middle. In the foreground there are also small black silhouettes of partying people, tables, chairs, a bar scattered around the room.

gal sherizly & Như Huỳnh: »Karaokee Xpress«

As a performative installation, the Çaystube serves as a space to meet up and slow down amidst the hustle and bustle of the festival – especially for marginalised communities. Once again this year, it will be transformed, with gal sherizly and Như Huỳnh expanding and reshaping the »tea room«, rolling out the carpet for festival goers with their commissioned work »Karaokee Xpress«. »Karaoke« means »empty orchestra«, having spread from its origins in Japan in the seventies to the rest of the world. Như and gal take up this practice of singing together, inviting people to gather and linger between festival concerts to sing along and fill the empty orchestra. No matter who you are or where you’re from: now’s your chance to have the spotlight.

Each day the »Karaokee Xpress« opens with a ritual and invitation to embody the spirits of karaoke legends into the body and prepare to sing as one collective body. In addition, essences, tastes and smells from different regions will be assembled into drinks.

Supported by Initiative Musik gemeinnützige Projektgesellschaft mbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) as part of Pop-Kultur Inter:national / Postmigrant Perspectives.
