Ja, Panik

»Apocalypse or Revolution« – That’s the question Ja, Panik ask at the very end of their latest album, »Die Gruppe«. Leading up to that, the Austrian Berliners tell stories that are stuck between dream and consciousness. Fragments of the experience of autobiographical digitalisation, of the rupture in the world that suddenly bursts open through a cracked smartphone display, of the pop-culturally encoded topos of the doctor’s visit and, as so often, of capitalism. »The only cure from capitalism is more capitalism«, they sing together. It resembles fanciful, liminal states in which the sounds simply buzz through the air, complete with echoes and slogans that you want to tattoo on yourself. »Apocalypse or Revolution« – they’re both so close.
