M.anifest

The fact that M.anifest has already won numerous awards, including Best Rapper of the Year in both 2013 and 2017, has perhaps been somewhat overlooked in this country, because it’s been at the Ghana Music Awards in his home country where he’s received the honour. He has also collaborated with artists such as Damon Albarn, Flea, Tony Allen and Erykah Badu, and is the grandson of one of Africa’s foremost ethnomusicologists and composers, J. H. Kwabena Nketia, who he says has been a major influence on his music. Accordingly, M.anifest mixes Ghanaian music (culture) with American rap influences, confidently crafting a new kind of hip-hop that should actually earn many more awards internationally. Or as he says: »Represent who? Represent what? Represent Africa with a spectacular street vernacular.«
