Sanni Est: »Photophobia«

»Photophobia« is an audiovisual piece, a music show with visuals, live musicians and dancers. Sanni Est uses unreleased footage and animations from the exhibition »PHOTOPHOBIA – The Preview«, which she has expanded and adapted for Pop-Kultur, as well as new visual works developed specifically for the festival. What makes this work unique is that Sanni Est includes elements of her biography, using profound transformational themes as an artist from Brazil and a trans woman of colour. Sanni Est questions concepts such as knowledge, reason, normativity and beauty through her voice and presence. »Photophobia« defies the idea of compliance and is dedicated to the dark. With an unbroken voice, Sanni Est explores unusual singing techniques, combining them with experimental synthesisers and Afro-Brazilian ritualistic drumming. Her Commissioned Work takes the audience into a world of personal transformation that is both healing and frightening.
